You can connect several WhatsApp Business numbers to one Social Intents account and route each one to a different chat widget and team. Use separate numbers for departments, regions or brands, each with its own routing and AI agent.
How Many Numbers You Can Connect
| Plan | WhatsApp numbers |
|---|---|
| Basic | 1 |
| Pro | 5 |
| Business | 10 |
On Basic, the WhatsApp card in Settings > Channels shows Upgrade to add numbers. See pricing.
Why Use Multiple Numbers
- Departments: sales, support and billing each get a number routed to the right team channel.
- Regions: local numbers for different countries, each routed to a local team.
- Brands: each brand keeps its own WhatsApp presence and display name.
Adding a Number
There are two ways to add a number, depending on whether it's already in a WhatsApp Business Account you connected.
A New Number (Meta Signup)
Start from Integrations
Go to Integrations and click + Add number on the WhatsApp card. Read the Before you continue to Meta checklist and click Continue to Meta.
Choose the WhatsApp Business Account and Verify
In Meta's window, choose the same WhatsApp Business Account or a different one, then add and verify the new number. The same rules apply as for your first number; see Setting Up WhatsApp Business.
Route It
Go to Settings > Channels > WhatsApp. The new number appears under WhatsApp numbers. Choose its widget and click Save channel settings.
A Number Already in Your WhatsApp Business Account
Open the WhatsApp Card
Go to Settings > Channels, expand WhatsApp and click Add number next to WhatsApp numbers.
Pick the Number and Widget
Choose it from Available WhatsApp numbers, choose a widget in Route to chat widget, click Add number, then click Save channel settings. Changes to numbers and routing apply when you save.
To stop routing a number, click Remove next to it and save.
How Routing Works
Each number maps to one widget. When a customer messages a number, Social Intents sends the conversation to that widget's team channel or space and to the web inbox.
| WhatsApp number | Widget | Team destination |
|---|---|---|
| +1 (415) 555-0100 | Sales widget | Teams #sales or Slack #sales |
| +1 (415) 555-0200 | Support widget | Teams #support or Slack #support |
| +44 20 7946 0300 | UK widget | Teams #uk-team or Slack #uk-team |
Because each number has its own widget, each can have its own AI agent with separate training and AI actions. Auto-close, compose and template settings on the WhatsApp card apply to all numbers.
Multiple Numbers Elsewhere in the App
- Finish setup checklist: shown per number, so you can see which number still needs a payment method or display name approval.
- Inbox compose: choose the sending number in Send From.
- Broadcasts: the composer's From step picks the number. Replies come back to that number and route to its widget. See WhatsApp Broadcasts.
- Limits: each number has its own display name, quality rating and Meta messaging limit. See WhatsApp Sending Limits and Quiet Hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can several numbers share one widget?
Yes. Choose the same widget for each number if you want all of them in the same team channel.
Do I need separate Meta business portfolios?
No. You can register several numbers in one WhatsApp Business Account, or connect numbers from different accounts. You need admin access to each portfolio you connect.
Why isn't my number listed under Available WhatsApp numbers?
The list only shows unassigned numbers in WhatsApp Business Accounts you already connected. For a number in a different account, or one that isn't registered yet, use + Add number on the Integrations page.
