Connect Social Intents to Zoom

3 min read Updated Nov 3, 2026 Zoom & Webex

Social Intents integrates with Zoom Team Chat so your team can respond to website visitors directly from Zoom. Below we cover connecting your Zoom account and receiving live chats.

Prerequisites

  • A Zoom account with Team Chat enabled
  • Permission to install apps in your Zoom workspace
  • A website where you want to add live chat

Setup

Start the Connection

New to Social Intents? Go to socialintents.com, start a free trial, and click Add to Zoom when asked which messaging tool you use. Already have an account? Click Integrations in the left sidebar and, under Agent channels, click Connect on the Zoom card.

Authorize Social Intents

You are redirected to Zoom's authorization page. Grant the requested permissions to finish connecting.

Choose the Channel

In Zoom Team Chat, add the livechat bot to the channel where you want incoming chats to appear. Then in Social Intents, go to Chat Widgets, select your widget, open the Settings tab, pick the channel under Route chats to Zoom channel, and click Save changes.

Install the Widget

Copy the JavaScript snippet from the widget's Deploy tab and paste it before the closing </body> tag on your website:

<script src="https://www.socialintents.com/api/chat/socialintents.1.5.js#YOUR_WIDGET_KEY" async="async"></script>

Test

Open your website and send a test chat. A notification should appear in your Zoom Team Chat channel.

How Chats Work in Zoom

When a visitor starts a chat, Social Intents sends an invitation to your configured Zoom Team Chat channel. The invitation includes the visitor's name, page URL, and initial message. Agents respond directly in the channel, and messages flow between Zoom and the visitor's browser in real time.

Zoom uses a linear channel structure (no threading), so messages appear as a stream within the channel.

Escalation Routing

You can direct chats to different Zoom channels based on the conversation topic. Under AI Agent > Actions, create Escalate chat to human actions and pick the target under Route to Zoom channel (Custom Actions are included on the Pro and Business plans and during your free trial). You can also let visitors pick a department on the pre-chat form: in the widget's Settings tab > Pre-chat form > Groups / departments, choose the Zoom channel each department sends to. See Escalation Routing.

AI Chatbots with Zoom

Enable an AI chatbot on your widget to handle initial visitor conversations. The AI responds instantly, and when a visitor needs human help, the conversation escalates to your Zoom channel with full conversation context.

Chatbot setup is the same as other platforms. Go to Chat Widgets > your widget > AI Agent tab, turn on the AI agent, and choose a provider and model. GPT-6 Luna (the default), GPT-5.6 Luna, GPT-4o and GPT-4o Mini are included with your subscription; other models use your own API key. See Choosing Your AI Engine and Build Your First AI Chatbot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with Zoom Meetings or just Team Chat?

The live chat integration uses Zoom Team Chat for messaging. To move a chat to a video call, agents or the AI can share a Zoom meeting link that opens Zoom; see Video Escalation with Zoom and Webex.

Can I use Zoom and another platform at the same time?

Each widget connects to one platform. To use multiple platforms, create separate widgets for each.

What Zoom plan do I need?

You need a Zoom plan that includes Team Chat functionality.
